Small Changes That Make a Big Difference When Remodeling Your Backyard

For many homeowners, a well-kept backyard is a key component to finding (or building) their dream home since a backyard can add a certain amount of charm and increase the value to any property. Still, remodeling your backyard can be a daunting project—no matter how excited you are to begin. Many homeowners find themselves worrying about the added expense of big projects yet don’t realize that even the slightest change can transform their entire backyard for the better. If you’re remodeling and feel a little overwhelmed, keep reading!

Adding Furniture

It may sound simple, but purchasing a few pieces of patio furniture can create a welcoming space in any empty backyard. From dining tables to swinging hammocks, the choices are endless. If your backyard doesn’t have a patio or a deck, consider buying a hammock or a bench to create a cozy spot. Furniture can also add a splash of color—look for bright cushions and pillows to make chairs even more inviting. Rugs are also a good option if you are working with a teeny-tiny space. Be creative and add things that you love; it is your space, after all.

Potted Plants or Flower Beds

Plants can be underestimated when it comes to decorating. Sure, they require a little extra care, but don’t let that scare you! There are so many plants and flowers to choose from that you can pick something that’s fairly low-maintenance. For potted plants, you can take on an easy DIY project and paint flower pots to suit your fancy. Plant flowers in places that look a little bare, and you’ll be surprised at what a big difference they can make!

Outdoor Lighting

Even during the long days of summer, lighting is a wonderful element to any outdoor space. Think about how you want to spend time in your backyard and go from there—for instance, posting lights around your yard or pool creates the perfect party spot since they can also show off any landscaping you’ve done or make your patio feel like you’re spending time in a fancy resort. Ceiling lights or wall mounts are also perfect for those who don’t have a lot of space to work with. If you have a pool, you can even consider different colored lights that will highlight different areas of the water.
