Why Proper Pool Care Is Essential to Stop the Spread

Proper pool care and maintenance is important any day of the year. But when a pandemic like COVID-19 happens, it’s critical to keep everything in your environment clean—and that includes your pool.

The World Health Organization (WHO) states that controlling water quality is necessary to prevent the transmission of infectious diseases. As schools, offices and other places close down, children and families are staying at home. Here in Arizona, our beautiful spring weather means many of you will be enjoying your pool during your unexpected staycation. That’s why it’s so important to maintain the health of your pool.

Guide to Pool and Spa Maintenance

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), COVID-19 cannot survive in properly treated pool and hot tub water. Make sure you continue your regular pool care and maintenance schedule, and this should help keep your water safe from the virus and other germs. However, monitor your use of pool chemicals carefully—using too much chlorine, for instance, can cause injuries. Keep an eye on your kids while they’re in the pool and look out for red eyes, skin irritation or respiratory problems. These could be signs that your pool chemicals are out of balance.

Both adults and kids should continue to practice “social distancing” by keeping six feet away from others, especially in public pool areas.

Lastly, don’t forget to watch your kids around the pool. Play safe and have fun.
