Fall Backyard Entertaining Ideas from Shasta Pools

Invite friends and family over to enjoy your Phoenix backyard living environment and this beautiful Arizona fall weather.

Whether it’s a cozy gathering of small friends or a large special event, these backyard entertaining ideas are sure to not disappoint:

Giant Jenga

This one’s a huge party pleaser, though plan well in advance as you’ll likely need to make the game yourself after taking a trip to the hardware store.  You can choose the size of the 54 blocks that you’ll be making, though the ratio should be that each block is 3x as long as it is wide, and 1/5 as thick as it is long.  Once measured out, make your cuts and then sand the edges to create your own personal set smooth, streamlined Jenga blocks.  For more in depth instructions, check out this step-by-step picture tutorial by A Beautiful Mess.

Backyard Movie Screen

If you have the space, a projector, and an audio system, you can create your very own backyard movie theater.  The simplest and most affordable way to do this is to create a quick frame out of pine (or any other wood), and then use an unrolled white shower curtain (with the curtain rod taped to the bottom of the frame) as the screen.  Try to set up the screen in an area that is against the sun, and where there aren’t any street lights or other lighting that may interfere with the picture.  Oh, and don’t forget to set up some citronella candles to keep those pesky mosquitoes at bay!

The Easy S’More Buffet

This treat is ideal for anyone who doesn’t have (or want to provide) access to a grill or a fire pit.  All you need to make this possible are:

  • Cans of Sterno (4-5)
  • Marshmallows
  • Skewers
  • Chocolate sauce
  • Crushed graham crackers

The cans of Sterno can be placed in a planter boxes or even hollow bricks surrounded by rocks or other inflammable materials to help keep the cans from shifting and moving around a table.  Provide the marshmallows, the skewers and all of the fixings for the s’mores in small, decorative bowls (you can even choose bowls to match the theme of your event!) and watch your guests enjoy this simple yet delicious dessert.
