Ever heard of an outdoor swim in the winter? Only if you live in Arizona! If your family is known to take a dip throughout the year, and not just in the warm summer months, you may want to keep your pool open for business. But, if not, there are a few simple steps you should take to winterize your Arizona pool.
1.Winter Cleaning
Don’t neglect your pool in the winter. Skipping cleanings will only make the job harder the next time you clean it. Before you put a pool cover on your pool, your first step should be to do a thorough winter cleaning.
2. Balance the pH Level
Monitoring and adjusting the pH level of your pool is especially important when the pool is not in use for an extended period. Use a test kit to balance the chemistry in your pool. We recommend a pool pH of between 7.2 and 7.8.
3. Add Shock
Shocking your pool is essential to preventing bacteria from forming while it’s not in use. This is what gives your pool it’s clear blue appearance.
4. Install a Pool Cover
There are many different types of pool covers. Some are more permanent, while others can easily be removed if you want to swim. A pool cover can also offer safety benefits. When you build a new pool, it’s wise to invest in a durable pool cover that is custom-made to fit your pool shape.
5. Add a Fire Pit
Because we’re in Arizona, we’re lucky to be able to dine and play outside in the winter months. Set up a fire pit and comfortable seating near a hot tub or heated pool so you can enjoy your pool in the winter. Go for a swim and then snuggle up by the fire. Call us crazy, but a winter swim is one of our favorite perks of having a pool in Arizona. Interested in learning more? Contact our Remodel Team.
